ENAR WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITIES
These funds support both the Fostering Excellence in Biostatistics Workshop and the Early Career Workshop Series. Donations can be earmarked for one, or both, Workshops.
For more than 25 years, ENAR has helped to make the STEM fields diverse through different initiatives. We hope to expand our reach and begin to provide more support, such as travel scholarships for members from underrepresented groups with limited travel funds. The Fostering Excellence in Biostatistics Workshop and the Early Career Workshop Series are two important ENAR Workshops that provide a valuable service to the next generation of Biostatisticians.
Fostering Excellence in Biostatistics Workshop
The Fostering Excellence in Biostatistics Workshop is a day-long workshop that has been held at the ENAR Spring Meeting since 1999. Its goal is to encourage more quantitatively skilled early-career scholars from broad-ranging backgrounds to pursue degrees in Biostatistics and foster their active participation and contributions to the field. Workshop activities include career and graduate school panels, roundtable discussions, breakout sessions on scientific writing and R coding, and many opportunities for networking and outreach. The Workshop has primarily provided travel support for undergraduate students to attend, while including high school students, current graduate students in (bio)statistics programs, as well as faculty members from various institutions including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Native American Tribal Colleges, and other professionals from industry and governmental agencies who may serve as mentors to the students. The Workshop has become so popular that for the past several years demand has well exceeded available spaces of approximately 100 per offering.
Early Career Workshop Series
ENAR is bringing back the Junior Researchers Workshop in a new modern hybrid format titled the Early Career Workshop Series!
We’re updating the program to have four tracks, covering Industry, Government, Academia Methodology Researcher, and Academia Team Scientist Collaborator. At the ENAR Spring Meeting, the first Early Career Workshop series cohort will attend three workshop-specific sessions covering broad topics such as communicating your work and your value, developing and maintaining your network, and navigating a new environment with an early eye towards promotion and success. In addition, the workshop will include a shared cohort meal at the ENAR Spring Meeting, and the cohort will have free access to one short course, tutorial, or roundtable.
After the Spring Meeting, the cohort will participate in virtual programming, some track-specific, covering content such as transformational leadership, maximizing interdisciplinary collaboration skills, mentor/mentee relationships, regulatory writing, grant writing, and finding funding in changing climates. We’re excited to reintroduce this opportunity for our early-career members, and to continue to build the ENAR community.
